Spring 2020 Cancellation

Over the last few months, we've all watched as the coronavirus pandemic has impacted Habersham county, the state of Georgia, these United States, and the world on a scale unprecedented in our time. In the face of these difficult times, the goal of Habersham County Little League has been to serve our community by kicking-off a baseball and softball program as soon as our local, state, and national governments agree that it's safe to do so.

Our board has met repeatedly (using Zoom) and done everything in our power to salvage our Spring 2020 season. However, during our board meeting Wednesday evening, we concluded that it was impossible for us to ensure the safety of our players and their families at this time.

At this time, we've made the very difficult decision to officially cancel our Spring 2020 season.

This decision was not made lightly. There were two primary factors that contributed to our decision.

First, the White House has published guidelines for Opening Up America Again. In reviewing these guidelines, it became clear to us that we could not have a Spring 2020 season and comply with these guidelines.

Second, our commitment over the last few months has steadfastly remained that we will support our local government and Habersham County Schools. We learned earlier this week that Habersham County Schools have canceled all summer camp activities and following their lead means we too should not be holding in-person activities this summer.

We know this is disappointing news. Thank you for the way you've stuck with us over the last several weeks and months as we've done everything we could to salvage a Spring 2020 season.

Moving Forward

During our meeting earlier this week, the board settled on three options that you can pick between if you paid for a player to participate in Spring 2020.

  • Option 1: Donate. Leave your funds with HCLL as a donation which we will use to improve our program. We are always in need of donations to purchase equipment, fund improvement projects, perform maintenance, and support our community.
  • Option 2: Credit. Leave your funds with HCLL and apply them as a credit for either our Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 season.
  • Option 3: Refund. Please note that most refunds will be partial. If you would like a refund please review the information at the bottom of this email carefully.

Please reply as soon as possible and no later than Friday, May 29, 2020.

Any registration fees which have not been claimed by May 29, 2020 for refund or credit will be included in the Option 1: Donate group.

HCLL Fall 2020

Last, but certainly not least, it is our pleasure to announce that at this time we intend to launch registration for a Fall 2020 season on July 1, 2020.

Our ability to hold a fall season is still not certain at this time, but if at all possible we will hold a Fall 2020 season and registration will open on that date.

Thank you for your support and your patience with us as a board as we've done everything in our power to make baseball and softball a reality in our community. We will be back soon stronger than ever!

Additional Information Regarding Refunds

If you would like a refund, please read the following section carefully.

Uniforms for players in our 12-and-under divisions (T-ball through the Major division) were printed before play was suspended earlier this Spring. Players in those divisions can receive a partial refund as well as the jersey and hat that have been printed. For players in our Junior and Senior division, as well any who registered after April 16 when we reopened registration, we have not printed those uniforms and you can receive a full refund.

Please refer to the following list to determine the amount of refund we are able to extend to you:

  • Complete Refund: If you registered for Junior or Senior divisions (baseball or softball), or if you registered for any division on or after April 16, 2020, you can request a full refund.
  • Partial Refund: Players who registered for any of our 12-and-under divisions (T-Ball through Major) during our initial registration phase can receive a partial refund as well as their uniform (jersey and hat). Refunds will be $60 for T-ball and Machine-Pitch, and $70 for all other divisions. If you received a discounted registration due to registering multiple players, the refund will be reduced by the amount of the discount.

To request a refund please reply to this email or send an email directly to [email protected] Please send the email from the email address you provided when you registered your child to play, and please identify the children for whom you are requesting a refund.

Please note that due to the way our payment processor operates we must process all refunds at the same time.

Our league Treasurer will process refunds the first week of June and you will receive your refund directly back to the card you used to pay. Refunds should be received by June 15, 2020. If you paid by cash or check we will need you to provide your mailing address and a paper check will be sent to your address and should be in your mailbox by June 15, 2020.

Distributing Uniforms for Refunded Registrations

As we mentioned, uniforms have already been printed for players in T-Ball, Machine Pitch, Rookie League, Minor League, and Major League. Uniforms have not been printed for any registrations received after play was suspended or for the Junior and Senior divisions.

If you request a partial refund for T-Ball, Machine-Pitch, Rookie, Minor, or Major, we can also provide your uniform (jersey and hat) to you. In June, once the refund process is complete, we will communicate a date and time to pick up uniforms.

Any uniforms which are not distributed along with a partial refund will be reused during our Fall 2020 season. If you select Option 1: Donate or Option 2: Credit, we will hold on to the uniforms we have printed and reuse as many as possible in the Fall.
