Our Delayed Season Now Slated to Start June 1

As a board, we'd really love to see kids playing soft/baseball in Habersham county before the end of spring. We've taken a hard look at the calendar and determined that we can turn our Spring season into a Spring-Summer season if we can get out on the fields by Monday, June 1, 2020.

State-mandated social distancing measures are presently set to expire on May 13, 2020. If measures are lifted on that date, or at least no later than June 1, we will still be able to hold a delayed Spring season. With that in mind, yesterday evening the HCLL board met (digitally, over a video conference) and agreed to move forward with a plan to kick off our delayed season on June 1, 2020.

The plan is to have our first games on Monday, June 1 and our last games on Saturday, July 18. We'll also take a break from June 30-July 5 for Independence Day. This schedule will allow us to get in nearly a full season worth of games before school and other sport activities kick off in August.

This won't be a typical Spring season. Teams won't get in as much practice as usual and we expect games will be relaxed and emphasize experience and skill-development while placing less focus on win-loss records.

There is still a lot that is unknown. Little League International has not made any final announcements about tournament play. We don't know yet when practices can actually resume. In addition, it is possible that social distancing measures won't be lifted by June 1, in which case we would have no choice but to regroup and push our plans forward to the fall.

We also understand that some families may not be able to participate in a season held June 1 - July 18. If you have children registered for Spring 2020 and already know that your family will be unable to participate please reach out to us ([email protected]) so that we can discuss your options.

We aren't ready to call it quits on our spring season. As things stand today, holding a season is still possible, and we want to see some baseball in Habersham county before spring is through!

Thanks for sticking with us. We hope you'll join us in moving forward with a plan to get back on the fields in June, as long as the door remains open to that possibility.
